SET’s Science team members have played leading roles in the development of many of the world’s most
advanced information processing technologies. From radar to video, we have a profound understanding of
sensor phenomenology. And we have used this expertise to develop numerous processing solutions that help
our customers quickly and cost-effectively extract, organize, visualize, collaboratively share, and make
decisions with multi-sensor data.
Our research team is focused on the development of automated solutions to highly challenging information
problems for force protection, situation awareness, decision-making, and knowledge management applications.
For example, our Sensors and Signal Processing Division is currently developing a multi-sensor system that
provides the first-ever ability to detect and track walking humans carrying concealed weapons at safe distances.
In addition, we are developing a radar-based imaging and motion sensor that penetrates walls, in conjunction with
novel algorithms that automatically process the radar returns to characterize structures and people.
Our Image and Video Understanding Division is an industry leader in the research and development of image and
video algorithms that automatically detect, track, and identify objects of interest, as well as characterize
object activities. In addition, our video analytics experts have developed a powerful video stabilization and
mosaicing solution that enables affordable video monitoring applications from fix-mounted optical sensors on
low-flying unmanned air vehicles. Our solutions have been employed by military customers on both ground and
air platforms to monitor activities in highly challenging urban environments.
Our Information Systems and Security Division specializes in technologies that allow humans to analyze, share,
and protect information. For example, we develop powerful models of human behavior that accelerate and improve
the accuracy of complex data search and retrieval tasks. In addition, we have developed novel solutions for the
visualization of non-traditional data, such as political, economic, and diplomatic information, to support
collaborative decision-making applications. Our “liquid” visualization tools allow users to rapidly switch
between display metaphors and data representations in order to meet the information portrayal needs of a diverse
group of military and civilian decision makers. And our anomaly detection algorithms provide advanced cyber
security solutions that help our customers avoid information breaches, fraud, theft, and sabotage.
SET holds a substantial number of Prime contracts. However, we also subcontract with Prime Contractors who desire
algorithm development and software engineering expertise in one or more of our core competency areas: sensor physics,
mathematics, signal processing, computer vision, and knowledge management. Our Science team members hold active security
clearances to support our military and National intelligence customers. We also maintain strong relationships with major
academic institutions and Industry laboratories, ensuring we remain poised to convert new theories into practical technologies.
